The Art of Falconry

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Fireweed jumps back into long form production with a rare and exclusive look into the art of falconry.  The documentary will explore this centuries-old practice- dubbed the Sport of Kings- one that has evolved from a medival status symbol to its current role protecting endangered birds of prey.  But behind it all is a fascinating combination of art and sport.  As the falcon flies, we will follow it to the mountains of the South to the wild West and even overseas to the wilds of East Africa.  Production starts this November.

The musical capital of the universe adds to its legacy this weekend with the annual Austin City Limits Festival.  Fireweed will be there covering all the music and the madness.  We’ll have performance video, extensive interviews, and photos.  Also, we get a special invite to a music institution– Austin City Limits at KLRU studios!  Producer Terry Lickona will take us behind the scenes and talk about the rich history of the longest running live music showcase on American television.  Performances and interviews by Pearl Jam, Kings of Leon, John Legend, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dave Matthews Band…and that’s just the beginning!

Another top-shelf project from our friends at CNN, we dive into the work of provocateur extraordinaire and Oscar-winning filmmaker Michael Moore.  Fireweed has had the pleasure of Mr. Moore’s company in the past, working with him in his home state of Michigan during the historic Presidential election of 2008.  This time, as he sits down with iconic broadcaster Larry King, we at Fireweed will augment the prime time event with an exhaustive presentations of the filmmaker’s work in its entirety– from Roger & Me to Capitalism: A Love Story.  Keep an ear out for some of Mr. Moore’s favorite music as well!
